    A Question About Fertility ( And I`m not talking Druids this time either)

    Before I get to the question may I just recommend trimming to Ministry`s Just One Fix, live `96 Spinctour....Okay, had an Ice Breaker that overnight produced bananas...not much fun but it happens. I have a rolling setup which I believe people also call perpectual grows-so got 4 girls that were just up for harvest and took them out....that leaves 8 girls in various flowering stages. Now, firstly, in my head they`re dead meat but you never know. I blitzed the room with spayed water droplets, wiped some hard surfaces down, sprayed even more water and covered the girls with it as well. I run a dehumidifier 24/7 in there and have very good airflow to the point that it`s sexy so mold isn`t an issue as humidity is usually around the 35%. So, my question and it is a real newbie question so please be respectful that I haven`t the knowledge or experience a lot of you folks have (Should see the bitching on other sites around similar questions...man alive, fists would fly if they spoke like that in person )...so, is there any way that developing bud size may be indictative of pollination, is it a question of just waiting to see if seeds are there and finally, if you have one or two seeds, does it ruin the potency of that lasses whole output...and is it one bit of pollen per seed production or does pollen trigger a group of seeds. Thankfully I `m on safer turf with human reproduction...phew. Any insights would be appreciated and I wish you all well on this freezing cold Feb night

    I haven't noticed any type of size difference in a seeded bud vs a non seeded one. A few seeds won't ruin your crop and I would say there's a MARGINAL difference in the content of a seeded bud. It's one pollen grain to make one seed. Sure the crop will be fine, you just may have a few beans. More times than not, a banana is sterile and won't make pollen, and if there's no pollen, there's no bean.

      Waltermelon that was excellent mate...thank you very much...does a banana mean the plants a hermie and if that`s the case, are most hermie`s potentially sterile? Thanks...I may dodge the proverbial banana bullet then

    No problem. Yes, it is a Hermie and I'm sure under the right conditions it could be viable. But from all the reading I've done, if it's a banana, most of the time it's sterile. I think it has to do with the flower that spawns the banana. If it's a male pollen sac, then my best reading tells me it will be viable, if it spawns from a female flower, my education says it's most likely sterile.
    I have been wrong before, and I have read some questionable things though.

    So, it took me a minute to gather the question: you found some bananas on a plant and now you're worried about your room seeding out?
    -you'll be fine, already went overkill so I wouldn't worry at all!
    -pollen is neutralized with plain water and I think you said you sprayed the whole room down and wiped up already?

    I get hermies on this one strain early in bloom and I gotta pull off "ball sacks" quite regularly. Another strain I grow gets bananas late in flower. Neither causes any issues; they don't even self fertilize. Bananas don't matter much at all, ball sacks are more of an issue because that's a whole cluster of bananas ready to burst open with real life pollen, BEWARE. Each pistil is waiting for a single piece of pollen to land on it. So 1) you have to have pistils to get fertilized and 2) that one bud might grow a couple seeds but all the other buds will grow like normal.
    Cannabis wants to reproduce like a 'weed' so it has multiple mechanisms for survival and reproduction. It wants to make 1000s of seeds so it's not going to stop at just one or two (meaning she will continue to make the biggest stickiest most healthy buds to collect all that pollen)
    Also, it takes time for seeds to form so if you are late in bloom with darkened pistils then those will be fine.

    You can have problems if a plant is making the ball sacks and you don't catch it and it opens and you shake it or your fan blows through it. That will cause a few seeds so be careful about your airflow and bumping your plants.

    A few seeds never never hurt anything that's how Chemdog came
    to existence. A plant is just as high quality with or without seeds I wouldn't write off your ladies quite yet Rich they will be fine. Just keep scouting and making regular observations.

      KingKush....many thanks for that information. Really useful and appreciated. Never had bananas before so one to tick off to experience. Thank you very much mate and wishing you well from a bloody freezing part of the world where a single snowflake causes national panic

    Pagan, I've read over and over that some of the most famous strains we know today came from bag seed--or females that got pollinated. If you get any mature seeds when all is said and done, they make make history; you never know. But your crop is hardly ruined: my last batch had a hermie, and all of the strains in the box with her got seeds, but the weed was great. It's all been extremely popular among friends. So don't worry. I'd say just be careful about that human reproduction, which should be entirely intentional and not accidental. ;-}

      Make up your mind, Pagan: do you want to master the secrets of the Mind of Clear Light, to see beyond the known universe, to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings, to levitate by breathing through the right nostril, to dry a wet sheet wrapped around your body while you stand outside in a blizzard...or do ya wanna get laid?
